Karratha Senior High School serves more than 1,200 students and is the only public secondary school in town, so the upgrade had to deliver for a growing community rather than simply add space. The works included a major refurbishment of specialist learning areas to create a commercial kitchen, an extension to the administration building for student services, and the addition of a covered hard court. The project was designed by Iredale Pedersen Hook Architects and built by Decmil, as part of the State Government's school infrastructure program.

School hardware takes constant, heavy use from students and staff, and it has to hold up while meeting accessibility and egress requirements across a busy campus. Products were selected to handle that daily load without becoming a maintenance burden for a school a long way from its suppliers.

Supplying into the Pilbara also means getting the schedule right the first time, because a missing item is not a quick trip back to the branch. Projects like Karratha, alongside our work in Albany, show that Barnetts services the whole of Western Australia, not just the metropolitan area.
